GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN-DAMENTAL RIGHTS

Happy International Women's Day! My love goes out to all women out there.

In a way it's sad that this kind of day is necessary.

It's sad that we need a day specifically for women to highlight how poorly treated many women all over the world still are.

The Feminist movement started in the early 1900's and if it wasn't for all the brave, fierce amazing women marching, protesting and fighting for their rights, many parts of the world would look very different from what they do today. What if we never got the opportunity to vote and never got basic fundamental rights?

A big thanks to all these angry feminists who brought some fucking equality into this world

I am blessed to be living where I live. I can vote, I can go to school, I can drive, I can do all the shit anyone SHOULD be able to do. But, I can't fully enjoy that knowing because of my sex, all those rights would be taken away from me if I were to go someplace else than here - where the feminist movement hasn't been accomplished yet. Countries in which women do not have equal rights yet.

Women all around the world in many different countries are not even remotely close to being equal with men. That is what many people in my surrounding seem to forget; what about the rest of the women in this world?

It's easy to ignore these women since we're not really influenced by it. I don't live in a country where I'm completely powerless, where my body isn't truly mine because other people are more entitled to it than I am, where I would have no say in what I want for my career, where career choice would be limited for me as a woman, deciding wether I want to marry or not, have kids or not, have sex or not - whilst here, in Belgium, this is something self-evident, something so obvious and something everyone knows should be up to the individual, and not for men to decide. Because here, equality between the sexes has been more or less achieved, at least the obvious rights like voting and driving, going to school and being able to divorce your man, but there's still a lot work to do - and if all the 20th century women did it, then we'll do it on and on for as long as needed. Whoever said "I don't get it, protesting and shit doesn't get you anywhere, what you're doing is pointless you know that's not gonna change anything...", well it did bring us to today - a juster society. Protesting and rebellion brings whichever topic attention, whether it's women's rights, gay rights, the black lives matter movement and racism, it makes people more aware of the current situation, it makes people think and reconsider the way things are and it makes people question whether these things are right or not, and eventually they realize they have to make a change and that they can't go on like they're used to.

People unconsciously still seem to think in oldfashioned, sexist ways where women are weaker and less valuable than men. We live in a society which still promotes things in a sexist way, still putting women as inferior to men. We need a revolution of peace love understanding and equality.

People need to unite and work together as one, not men against women and vice versa. I think admitting to yourself that you are privileged can be hard for some people, but it is so important to just accept that and actually use your privilege for something good, and not just deny the fact that you're privileged as hell - especially as a white straight man. This term shouldn't even vary in the first place from person to person depending on their gender, sexual orientation, skin color or ethnic background, and that is exactly what we have to change. People need to back up and help others, not just sit back and watch, even if something's beneficial for you or if something doesn't really have a negative impact on your life, it still means that someone is suffering. We all need to stand up for one another.

Finally, thanks to all the rebels that changed the world, the rebels that are still changing the world, and to all the future rebels who will keep fighting for equal rights for EVERYONE.

Equality wins

:-)
